Returns to New York City
April 20, 2010 |
| |
Cloud computing is steadily becoming an integral
part of the enterprise computing environment. |
|

No one can properly understand anything related to enterprise-level Cloud Computing without having first gained a deep understanding of the capabilities of different Cloud players. Cloud Expo's pioneering Cloud Computing Bootcamp is designed with that in mind. It is a one-day, fully immersive deep-dive into the Cloud, in which the sessions during the day seek to give delegates a deep understanding of the capabilities of different Cloud players and how they address rapidly changing market demands.

The ever-popular Bootcamp, which is now held regularly around the world, is being held this time round in conjunction the 5th Cloud Expo in New York, NY (April 20, 2010). It is led by our 2010 Bootcamp Instructor Larry Carvalho.
BOOTCAMP SUMMARY: A compelling one-day, deep dive into just what it takes to take full advantage of the Cloud. Get a deep understanding of the capabilities of different Cloud players and how they address rapidly changing market demands.

The day is divided into six sections:
9:10 - 9:55am - Section #1 Mapping the Cloud ecosystem: Who are the players? Covering start-ups, existing enterprise vendors, service and hosting providers mapped to solutions provided.
11:00 - 11:45am - Section #2 Identifying your own position in the ecosystem: How you address the market challenges depends on whether you are a customer (large or mid-market), systems integrator/service provider or independent software vendor? Get a deep understanding to the capabilities of different players and how they address rapidly changing market demands.
11:50 - 12:20pm - Section #3 Open standards and open source: Do you take the toll or the toll-free road? Does it make a difference if solutions are measured by Service Level Agreements between consumers and providers of cloud solutions? The role of open standards is important preventing vendor lock-in while picking a solution.
2:35 - 3:20pm - Section #4 Financing: . Financing changes brought about by cloud computing: Information technology use in the new era will require change in how initiatives are funded and charged back to business units. Cloud delivery of services will require IT financing to review executive considerations while measuring subscription, usage or ad supported business models. Service providers need to consider to sales commissions, renewals and billing models.
5:40 - 6:25pm - Section #5 Connecting the dots: Connecting the dots in developing your cloud computing strategy: How do you connect your requirements to solution providers? How do you determine a road map to take advantage of this very nascent technology?
6:30 - 7:15pm - Section #6 Conclusion: Next steps for your organization.
Seats are limited to the first 250 attendees.

Midsize businesses are turning to IT investments to grow their businesses and the larger the organization, the more likely it is to cite technology as having the greatest potential to increase productivity, according to a new survey of midmarket companies by Deloitte.
The study shows cloud computing emerging as an investment priority. When asked what types of investments companies were likely to make in technology, 40 of the respondents cited cloud computing. That's close to automation of business processes (46 percent) and data analytics (41 percent), according to eWEEK.

As corporations across all industries globally are struggling with how to retain, aggregate and analyze this mounting volume of what the industry refers to as Big Data, it also provides a unique opportunity for innovative startups that recognize the business prospects Big Data presents. Big Data is not just unlocking new information but new sources of economic and business value.
Interactivity is driving Big Data, with people and machines both consuming and creating it. Digital companies focused on becoming good at aggregating and analyzing the data created by the end users of their product, who then provide their customers with solid insights taken from that data are at a distinct competitive advantage over others in the marketplace. It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc.
Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
